ONE DAY COURSE - MAY 8th 2010

GROW YOUR OWN VEGETABLES

WHEN TO GROW, WHEN TO PLANT AND HOW
TO NURTURE IT.

 
     

 



This one day course will cover the basics of starting a vegetable garden and of growing in a poly tunnel.

The course is run on a four acre smallholding, which boasts a wide variety of poultry, pigs, sheep, goats, vegetables, a poly tunnel, a mature orchard, a Coffee Shop and a Farm Shop.

You will learn about soils and seedbed preparation, fertility and manures, seeds and sowing, plants and planting, weed and weeding.

Our aim will be to help you start the growing year, be it in a window box or on an acre or more.

The Course will include:

   • Soil types, their assets and attributes
   • Fertility and the requirements of plants
   • Seed bed preparation
   • Sowing seeds
   • Planting plants
   • Greenhouse Growing of seedlings
   • Preventing Pests and diseases
   • Weeds and weeding
   • Water requirements and irrigation
   • Timing and seasonality
   • Costs and returns
   • Machinery and tools

We expect to send you away from this course with the confidence and knowledge to get your garden growing and producing wonderful, flavourful, home grown produce, with the minimum of work and worry.
